A New World Record Bass

 A New World Record Bass

The state record for bass in Florida is 17.27 pounds, but others cite an uncertified fish weighing 20.125 pounds. In California, Leaha Trew is said to have caught a new world record largemouth bass. California has produced 22 of the 25 largest bass ever recorded.

Many people travel to Florida to catch that trophy bass, but did you know that four other states have a larger state record than Florida? Furthermore, one of the states is said to have set a new world record.

The state record for bass in Florida is 17.27 pounds, but others frequently cite an uncertified fish weighing 20.125 pounds (a fisheries biologist did not physically see the fish to certify it). In California, Leaha Trew is said to have caught a new world record largemouth bass. It weighed 22 pounds, 8 ounces, which was 4 ounces more than George Perry's 1932 record catch. The problem is that only one photograph was taken of it, and it was not certified by a biologist or a state fish and game official in California.

Where will the next world record be set? Which state is it: Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, or Texas? It will almost certainly be from California. Gregg Silks has already caught two bass weighing over twenty pounds and claims to have lost a world record fish weighing 24 pounds. Who can argue with him when he knows what a 20-pound bass looks like? California has produced 22 of the 25 largest bass ever recorded. In my opinion, the next world record bass will come from the San Diego water system's lakes.

Take a look at the numbers:

Dixon caught a 21-pound-11-ounce bass.

Jennings: 18 pounds or more

Murray: 18 pounds and up

Poway weighs 18 pounds and 2 ounces.

These are only a few of the lakes; all of them have monster bass. Not only that, but big bass can be found all over California; Leaha Trew caught hers in Sonoma County. While I have nothing against Florida because I have lived there and seen many 10 pound plus bass caught there, California is producing larger bass and people are catching them.

Just make sure to check with the water district before you go because some have restrictions and are closed at certain times.
